LoL Season 10: Ranked Mode and Matchmaking in 2020

It’s only been two months since the League of Legends ‘ ranked queue reopened, and already many of us have started to climb the ladder. A perfect time for Riot Games to address our concerns by communicating their avenues of work for the upcoming year. The starting point for any reflection is first and foremost the opinions of the players. Here are the points on which the community would like to see improvements, or even consequent changes:. When you start a game, you sometimes have that unpleasant feeling that your game is already lost. The goal of the development team is to make sure that the current system balances the opposing players as well as possible — in short, to no longer have a huge feeling of hopelessness at the beginning of some games. Two improvements regarding matchmaking in ranked mode are currently tested and should be released in a future patch:. Once implemented on the live servers, developers will keep an eye on it to make changes and enhance the system as needed. These features are currently under development and at this time we don’t know when they will be implemented. Riot Games is currently studying two possible solutions:.

Why Players should focus on the Duo Queue in League of Legends

Originally posted by cubonelvl I think the goal is auto fill top vs auto fill top, etc. I know they mentioned having equal number of autofilled players on each team, so my guess is this means they’ll try to match position of autofilled on each. This is pretty much where we’re looking. We’re being cautious with how fast we tune the autofill knobs, because there are some pretty clear trade-offs in match quality and matchmaking queue times if we go too big too fast.

You just have to make a new queue, it’s not that hard, makes no sense to have solo and trio but no duo.

My duo partner is mostly support. The matchmaking we see as a duo seems unusually hard. Well, solo queue games for each of us and we sit in the same room to witness this are much easier! After going solo queue, i went and quickly found my way back to Gold. So, it seems the system is doing something to make duo games extra hard. Rather than essentially being punished for the effort of trying to play together.

Riot Games has announced that Valorant will not have a solo queue mode and will not be launching with a ranked mode tomorrow. One topic that has been spoken about a lot by the community was the need for a solo queue, a matchmaking queue where no parties are allowed and all players will be on their own, not with friends. However, the development team has confirmed that the solo queue will not be coming to Valorant anytime soon. The same also goes for a potential duo queue. However, just moments after the developers portion of the stream ended, top level players were interviewed and said that they would like to see a solo queue to stop them having to play against full teams of five.

The community has also been vocal about their similar feelings on this, so if that sentiment continues we could see Riot have to change their mind on this decision. Elsewhere the dev team also confirmed that ranked play will not be available at launch despite being available in the beta. This is so that new players will be able to learn the game without having to go into ranked matches.

At launch many would want to go into ranked games as soon as possible, which would lead to many players playing the competitive mode while still learning the game, which would create a less than ideal situation for more experienced players on their team. By holding ranked back for a while it gives everyone time to learn the basics.

MMRs between queues aren’t connected. This means occasionally high-MMR ranked players have lower MMRs in normals. Our perspective on the queues is that.

Hey everyone, on the design side we are currently analyzing the ranking system top to bottom. Thanks to everyone for their feedback! Competitive matchmaking has been a source of resentment for many players of Riot’s tactical shooter since the mode’s release in late June. One of the main complaints, which many notable personalities have echoed, is that solo queue players are constantly being matched with teams who have all queued up together in a five-stack.

Apparently, Riot has been listening to the community’s feedback. With Ziegler’s vagueness, fans don’t know what exact “aspects” Riot is aiming to fix. Problems such as the issues with five-stacking, the lack of a competitive ladder, the incredibly long queue times for high-elo players as well as unevenly matched teams all require the developer’s immediate attention.

Many content creators and professional players around the game’s scene have all spoken out about these issues. More recently, popular streamer Brandon “Aceu” Winn revealed how “unmotivated” he has become because of the ranked matchmaking system. Aceu explained that players are being carried by their better teammates in five-stacks, placing them in a rank they don’t deserve. He noted that the system is causing ranks to become “inflated.

Weighted Average is a blend of the average of all players, then skews that average to the highest-ranked player in the party. A party of similarly ranked players will have a Party Skill close to their average rating. Party Skill will now be weighted closer to the skill of the highest-ranked player in the group than in previous Seasons. Why is this necessary?

Matchmaking is the existing automated process in League of Legends that matches a player to and.

It can be addicting to play, entertaining to watch and even has a profound professional scene behind it. To its credit, Riot finally seems to be listening. It has always been hard to differentiate between players who have just been having bad games to a player that is intentionally trolling and giving up on trying to win a match. Riot Games has acknowledged that it need to prioritize addressing this kind of behavior. The team plans to tweak the system enough to establish a suitable balance in light of player feedback.

This includes testing a new matchmaking algorithm, which will be implemented in early preseason to prevent it from impacting the current season. The old system also did not accurately account for players in an auto-filled position or Red vs.

Riot reveal major matchmaking changes coming to League of Legends

Valorant continues to be impressively successful during its closed beta. But with launch looming, players are beginning to question the lack of certain features and options. One question that answered by Riot recently regards a pure solo matchmaking option in Valorant, or, more specifically, why there isn’t a pure solo matchmaking option in Valorant.

Solo and duo players will now have a higher chance of matching against parties of similar size at the expense of slightly higher queue times.

I don’t think so, but it also depends the lvl of the players anyway, however groups of 2 have easier matches than solo players, that i am sure of.

TangAce said in Are groups prioritized in matchmaking? That was also my impression. A well attuned team with team-speak is probably even better off. M3RC3N4RI0 duo queue changes everything, I was playing solo, stuck in P1 forever, played duo, jumped to D4, and that was 2 days ago in S1, played solo, stuck games in P1, played duo, went to master in 50 games first split in S2, played solo, stuck in plat second split in S2, played only duo, D3 after 25 games.

Add to that the MM somehow thinks it’s better to stack multiple parties on one team and put solo only on the other. Take a look at this matchup I posted this previously on old forum – I think it says a lot about the state of the MM.

Riot Games revealed what they will be doing in to improve ranked play and matchmaking in League of Legends. Ever since the smash-hit MOBA released, there has always been a discussion around it on how balanced it is. With thousands upon thousands of daily players, it can be increasingly difficult to get a fair match for everybody.

However, that’s exactly what Riot are looking to do in , and they released a lengthy blog post going into great detail about what they’ll be targeting. Their goals that are laid out include speeding up the queue times while also making sure they don’t compromise the quality of the match. The last thing players want is to wait several minutes for a game only to be steamrolled by better players.
